How do I know what’s the best treatment for me?

When you sign up to Dermatica, we’ll guide you through the different skin concerns that we treat. We recommend you choose the one that best matches your own skin concerns or goals.

Our dermatology team will then get to work once we receive your information. They will make a recommendation for your personalised treatment, which will be sent to your address as soon as possible.

What should I expect from my treatment?

The ingredients we use are chosen carefully by our team to get the results you want, but it can take a few weeks to see the benefits of treatment.

Though not everyone has them, it’s also normal to experience some side effects when you start a new treatment. This may show as red, flaky, burning or dry skin – and it’s a sign that your skin is getting used to the ingredients.

As a Dermatica subscriber, you have access to advice on how to get the most out of your treatment, and how to manage any side effects. Our dermatology team will also check in on your progress to make sure your skin goals are on track, and they’re always on hand to offer advice throughout your journey. To ask us a question, just message us from your dashboard.

When will I see results?

Everyone’s skin is unique. In most cases, it takes at least 6-8 weeks to see a visible difference. The timescale for seeing results can vary based on a few factors, including:

The skin concern you’re looking to treat (for example, acne may improve faster than melasma)
Your skin type (for example, how dry or oily your skin is, and whether you develop dark marks when your skin is inflamed)
The ingredients in your personalised treatment

You should start to notice changes within the first few weeks, but it may take a little longer to see your ideal results. For example, people with acne treatments using adapalene will see a visible improvement within 2-5 weeks, but it can take up to 8-12 weeks to get optimal results.

How should I apply the treatment?

All Dermatica treatments are applied once daily, at night. To apply the perfect amount, dispense one to two pumps of your formula on dry skin after you’ve cleansed your skin. Then follow up with a simple moisturiser.

Dermatica treatments should be applied evenly across the skin, focusing on the cheeks, forehead and chin. The lips, nostril or eyes areas can be delicate, so try to avoid these areas so you don’t experience irritation.

Always check the label and information leaflet included with your personalised formula. Also, don’t forget to use an SPF of at least 30 the following morning.

Does the treatment expire? How long does it last?

Yes, treatments do expire. Our treatments are formulated on-demand in our pharmacy, and our dermatology team sets expiry dates based on stability testing. We don’t recommend using your treatment after this date because we can’t guarantee the safety or effectiveness of the ingredients.

We’ll always make sure you’re able to use your treatment for a minimum of 28 days, inline with your subscription. We also recommend completing your monthly check-ins. It’s a chance for us to review your treatment and your progress, to make sure you’re getting the best results.

Can I use Dermatica products if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

We’re happy to say we offer formulas that are safe to use when pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive. Just let us know if this applies to you during your consultation, so our dermatology team can recommend a suitable formula for you, with no antibiotics, steroids or retinoids.

If you’re already a Dermatica subscriber and you’ve recently become pregnant or you’re actively trying to conceive, please stop using your formula and get in touch with us so our team can review the ingredients and personalise a new one for you if needed.

Can I buy a once off treatment?

Our personalised formulas are only available on a subscription basis at the moment. Skincare is a marathon, not a sprint, and it can take up to 12 weeks to notice significant results. This is why we encourage you to remain on your treatment for longer to get the results you want. Dermatica also offers regular check-ins to our subscribers, so our team can analyse your progress and change your formula if needed.

To make sure you’re completely satisfied with your formula, your first treatment is only £2.90. If you are interested in changing ingredients or skin goals at any time, you can get in touch with us. We do not dispense two different formulas to be used concurrently as it can cause irritation and some of the ingredients may counteract each other.

However, for those interested in our over-the-counter standalone products, a selection is available for direct purchase via our shop without the need for a subscription.
